After initial medical training at the University of Otago, Dr Douglas Scott trained in cardiology at Greenlane Hospital and completed a fellowship in Interventional Cardiology in Washington DC.
Dr Scott has over 17 years experience as a general and Interventional Cardiologist and has been principal investigator in more than 20 international pharmaceutical and stent trials.
In addition to his Ascot practice, Dr Scott works at Auckland Hospital as a visiting cardiologist and at Middlemore Hospital, where he has been instrumental in setting up the cardiac catheterisation laboratory and interventional services. In his role as Middlemore’s Clinical Director, Dr Scott is actively involved in the teaching of medical students, junior medical officers, advanced trainees in cardiology and interventional fellows.
Dr Scott’s current areas of interest are Interventional Cardiology including primary PCI (acute heart attacks), permanent pacemaker implantation and syncope (black outs), coronary care and clinical trials.
