Interventional Cardiologist
Dr Warwick Jaffe
Dr Warwick Jaffe has been practising clinical cardiology for the last thirty years. After initial training at Greenlane Hospital, he travelled to the United States as a recipient of a Foggity NIH scholarship. He trained in echocardiography and returned to Greenlane Hospital in 1990. He has been a recipient of several research grants.
Dr Jaffe began private practice in 1991 and has been full-time at Ascot Hospital since 1999. For the past fifteen years, he has practised interventional cardiology and he has carried out more than 3,000 angioplasties. Dr Jaffe travels to Samoa to work pro-bono for the Samoan Health Service. He has made more than thirty trips over the last ten years. He is primarily involved with service development which includes teaching junior doctors to diagnose and treat heart problems.

Interventional Cardiologist
Dr Douglas Scott
Dr Douglas Scott did his basic medical training at the University of Otago and trained in cardiology at Greenlane Hospital. He completed his fellowship in Interventional cardiology in Washington DC and has been principal investigator for nearly 20 major, worldwide clinical trials.
Working as part of Ascot’s multi-disciplinary team, Dr Scott is able to offer his patients the diagnostic tests that are best-suited to their requirements. Interventions can be executed when the need arises, making Ascot a ‘one-stop-shop’ for cardiac diagnosis and treatment. Dr Scott also works at Middlemore Hospital as a consultant cardiologist and is involved with teaching advanced trainees in cardiology, fellows in interventional cardiology and medical students.
Outside work hours, Dr Scott is a highly-accomplished triathlete.

Interventional Cardiologist
Dr Sergej Cicovic
Sergej undertook his subspeciality training at Auckland, North Shore, and Middlemore Hospital before being accepted at the prestigious Toronto General Hospital. He became the first formally trained Cardiac High-risk Interventionalist in Canada and New Zealand and helped to develop this new field. He has developed significant expertise in advanced coronary artery disease treatments and managing critically unwell patients.
Sergej began as a consultant at Waikato Hospital before becoming an Interventional Cardiologist at Auckland City Hospital. He has been the author of several publications and a speaker at multiple international conferences.

Interventional Cardiologist
Dr Andrew Borrie
Dr Andrew Borrie graduated from Otago University before undergoing cardiology training at Wellington hospital, with a fellowship in complex coronary intervention and intravascular imaging. Following on from this, he undertook a second fellowship in coronary intervention at Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney to further his skills, before returning to Auckland.
Dr Borrie has performed over 1,000 coronary interventions, is involved in international clinical trials and has made multiple publications and conference presentations. Particular areas of interest include cholesterol, intracoronary imaging and sheathless guide catheters.
As well as working at Ascot Cardiology Group Dr Borrie also works at Middlemore hospital and teaches medical students and cardiology trainees.

Interventional Cardiologist
Dr Patricia Ding
Patricia was born in Shanghai, China, and moved to New Zealand with her parents in the early 1990s. She is the first female mandarin speaking Interventional Cardiologist in New Zealand, who has a special interest in managing coronary artery disease.
After completing her advanced training and Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at the Greenlane Cardiovascular Service, Patricia traveled to the UK to complete an Interventional Fellowship at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital.
Upon returning to New Zealand, Patricia worked at Whangarei Hospital before moving back to Auckland in 2017, where she now works full time in private at Ascot Cardiology Group.
Patricia is passionate about cardiovascular risk factor management and treatment for chronic cardiac conditions.

General Cardiologist/Physician
Dr Patrick Gladding
Patrick is dual trained in both Internal Medicine and Cardiology. He completed his Cardiology training at the Greenlane Cardiovascular Service, Auckland, and has been a practising cardiologist since 2007. He undertook a Fellowship in Advanced Imaging at the Cleveland Clinic, USA, in 2010.
In addition to his work at Ascot, Patrick is also employed as a cardiologist at North Shore and Waitakere Hospitals. He has expertise in cardiac imaging, personalised healthcare and angiography, and in 2013 he completed a PhD in cardiovascular medicine. He enjoys helping patients with the use of innovative technologies and the latest developments in genomic medicine, whereby information about an individual’s genetic makeup can be utilised to tailor treatment specifically to the patient. He is the founder of Theranostics Laboratory.

Cardiologist
Dr Selwyn Wong
Dr Selwyn Wong did his medical degree at Otago University and cardiology training at Greenlane Hospital in Auckland. He then completed a research fellowship in Seattle before returning to Auckland to take up a consultant cardiology position at Middlemore Hospital in 2001. He has extensive experience in clinical cardiology particularly coronary artery disease, heart failure and valvular heart disease.
His subspecialty interest is in cardiac imaging. He was the Head of Department of Cardiology at Middlemore for eight years until late 2022. He has been the Chair of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians NZ Training Committee. Selwyn is a Fellow of the Cardiac Societies of Australia/NZ, Europe and the USA and is a Board member of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSANZ). Of particular note, he is privileged to be currently serving a two-year term as the Chair of the NZ Branch of CSANZ.

General and Interventional Cardiologist
Dr Tim Glenie
Dr Glenie completed his FRACP in Internal Medicine in 2008 before starting Cardiology training at Greenlane Hospital. Dr Glenie is interested in both coronary artery intervention as well as advanced cardiac imaging techniques involving cardiac MRI. He completed an advanced imaging fellowship programme at Greenlane Hospital involving cardiac MRI and cardiac CT scanning.
Having finished this he then completed a coronary interventional fellowship at Greenlane Hospital. Tim then had the opportunity to work with internationally recognised cardiologist Dr Stephen Worthley at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Australia. Here Dr Glenie was involved in clinical trial work with Cardiac MRI, coronary angioplasty and percutaneous aortic valve implantation.

Interventional Cardiologist
Dr Niels van Pelt
Dr Niels van Pelt is a consultant cardiologist at Auckland City Hospital. After training in Cardiology in Auckland he completed a fellowship in non invasive cardiac imaging at the Erasmus Medical Centre, Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Prior to his current appointment, he was a cardiologist at Middlemore Hospital, Auckland for 14 years where he established the cardiac CT programme.
He is a previous Chair of the New Zealand Cardiac Imaging Working Group of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand. He has also been on the CT conjoint committee for the certification of cardiac CT in Australia and NZ. Niels is interested in all areas of adult cardiology with a particular clinical interest in risk factor modification, ischaemic heart disease, valvular heart disease and cardiac imaging including all aspects of echocardiography and cardiac CT.

General Cardiologist
Dr Nicky Edwards
Nicky was trained in the UK; qualified in 1999, completing general medical training until 2003 and then specialist cardiology training until 2014. This time included a one-year Cardiac Imaging Fellowship here in Auckland, two years as a clinical lecturer at the University of Birmingham and three years of dedicated research with heart imaging techniques (leading to the award of British Cardiac Society Young Investigator of the Year in 2009) and a PhD from the University of Birmingham (UK) in 2011.
She worked as a cardiologist for three years in one of the UK’s largest hospitals before emigrating to NZ with her family in July 2018. She has worked at Auckland District Health Board for the past 2 years as a full time cardiologist and last year became Director of Echocardiography.

Cardiologist
Dr Hitesh Patel
After basic medical training at the Auckland School of Medicine, Dr Hitesh Patel completed his medical and cardiology registrar training at hospitals in Auckland and Tauranga. He did his cardiology specialist training at Greenlane Hospital.
Dr Patel has a strong interest in general cardiology with a focus on ischaemic and valvular heart disease and the use of cardiac imaging for diagnosis. His position as a full-time cardiologist at North Shore and Waitakere Hospitals, continues to provide him with exposure to the full range of cardiac problems that can affect patients.
He enjoys keeping up to date with new research and has made contributions to research, particularly as a sub or principal investigator, for many multi-center trials. He is a willing participant in endeavours to improve treatment of heart disease and in the last two years has travelled to assist the group that are providing cardiac surgery to patients in Fiji.

Cardiac Electrophysiologist
Dr Shawn Foo
Shawn graduated with a medical degree from the University of Liverpool (UK) before undertaking postgraduate medical training in Manchester, England. He then spent 6 months working in cardiology at the National Heart Centre in Singapore before relocating to New Zealand in 2014. Shawn has worked at several New Zealand public hospitals including North Shore, Auckland City and Middlemore Hospitals.
He has a specialist interest in Cardiac Electrophysiology with 13 peer-reviewed publications on the topic and in 2020 Shawn received his Graduate Diploma in Cardiac Electrophysiology. Shawn is continuing his education further and is pursuing a Doctor of Medicine (MD) on cardiac implantable electronic device use, implant trends and outcomes in New Zealand.

Cardiac Electrophysiologist
Dr Andy Gavin
Andy obtained his medical degree from Glasgow University and completed his general cardiology training in the UK before coming to New Zealand as a fellow training in electrophysiology (heart rhythm disturbances) at Auckland City Hospital and Greenlane Cardiovascular Services.

He then undertook an additional two-year fellowship at the renowned Flinders Medical Centre (Adelaide, Australia), sub-specialising in all aspects of electrophysiology including different types of pacemakers, and other implantable cardiac devices, as well as radiofrequency ablations (invasive electric treatment) of rhythm disturbances.
Andy leads the Electrophysiology Service at North Shore Hospital, Waitemata District Health Board.
